More attacks on open government

The Midwest Grassroots Community points to Dirty Secrets Bill - Action Alert:
The Sierra Club is urging Missouri residents to contact legislators today in opposition to the Dirty Secrets Bill currently being considered by the Conservation and Natural Resources Committee. The bill would treat as privileged communication and confidential any self-audit a company does concerning polluting activities. Essentially, it would grant them immunity from fines and prosecution as long as they self audit.
What a stupid idea. If I commit murder, should I get off because I turned myself in? What if I just self-audit? Let's just call this the O.J. strategy. We'll investigate ourselves and catch the real criminal.
