, a moment of levity in the Iraqi assembly
Yesterday the 275-seat interim assembly proposed a law to sack members who repeatedly failed to turn up. The decision was deferred because too many were absent.
It's funny until you ask why they're absent. The streets of Baghdad are pretty dangerous, it takes hours to get through security into the Green Zone, and some assembly members have even been turned away. If the Assembly can't get anything done because of security, how can they improve the security? I don't have an answer, it's a real conundrum.
