We take a break from depressing hurricane coverage to note that Connie Morris has a primary opponent
Sally Cauble, R-Liberal, a former schoolteacher and past member of the Liberal USD 480 school board, intends to file today to run for the massive 5th District of the state board, she said in an interview Tuesday. She already has a campaign chairman and treasurer.
Cauble declined to characterize herself as either a conservative or a moderate, but said she supports the teaching of evolution in Kansas public schools.
"I am a Christian, and I believe that God created the universe," she said. "I have also taught science and I find that both can be compatible."
Cauble, a 54-year-old native of Dodge City, taught elementary school after earning a degree in elementary education from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1972.
For the past five years, she has been a member of the board of directors of United Methodist Youthville, one of the largest not-for-profit child and family care agencies in Kansas, and she served many years on the board of trustees of Southwestern College, which is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Sounds good, but no endorsements until we hear more about her position on the full spectrum of educational issues. Saying that she's better than Connie Morris would be damning by faint praise.
