Rosa Parks (1913-2005)

Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks (1913-2005). Natural causes.

It's the end of an era. Having people like her around and alive helps remind us all the challenges that have come before and that they were overcome by normal people. Her mere presence was enough to remind people that change was possible and didn't require taking on activism as a full-time job.

She showed us that you can change the world while riding the bus to work.

Some of the most powerful activists are those who never planned on doing anything.

Thanks to Billmon and The Smoking Gun for reminding us what the mug shot of an innocent person looks like.

"If You Miss Me At The Back Of The Bus" by Pete Seeger from the album We Shall Overcome - The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert (1963, 2:40).
