Stephanopoulos on Plame

Think Progress » Source to Stephanopoulos: President Bush Directly Involved In Leak Scandal:
a source close to this told me this week, that President Bush and Vice President Cheney were actually involved in some of these discussions
The Washington Post explains that:

As the CIA leak investigation heads toward its expected conclusion this month, it has become increasingly clear that two of the most powerful men in the Bush administration [Scooter Libby and Karl Rove] were more involved in the unmasking of operative Valerie Plame than the White House originally indicated.
TalkLeft has a nice timeline of the events immediately preceding the revelation of the identity of an undercover CIA agent.

One thing that's easy to lose sight of is why this all happened. It's easy to get caught up in schadenfreude, enjoying the idea of Rove or Libby having to get advice on prison life from Liddy and Colson. But the CIA asked for this investigation because an agent whose identity they spent time and money obscuring and who they trained to clandestinely investigate the spread of WMD. Her identity was revealed to punish her husband for telling the truth, that Iraq didn't buy uranium from Niger and didn't try to.

The attacks on Wilson and the empirical evidence against an imminent (or grave or whatever the watchword of the week was) threat from the Iraqi WMD program were of a piece with the attacks against scientists and the science behind the dangers of global warming, atrazine, smoking, etc., documented by Chris Mooney. It's not just a Republican War on Science, it's a war on the idea of truth, the idea that some things can be objectively known.
