Here's hoping

Internet group wants to supply Downtown Lawrence with free wireless connection:
Anyone with a laptop should be able to access wireless Internet anywhere in downtown Lawrence as soon as June 2006.

Lawrence Freenet, a non-profit organization attempting to set up free broadband Internet throughout Lawrence, announced its “FreeZone Project,” a Wi-Fi network that will provide free wireless Internet access from Sixth Street to 11th Street on Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire streets last week.
I don't know if this will make tourism easier or if it will bring one red cent to any downtown businesses, but I like the idea a lot. I dream of a day where every reasonably large population center has free wireless access for all.
