"Heckuva job"

Bush: Rumsfeld Has Done “A Heckuva Job”:
BRIT HUME: I want to ask you about some of the people around you and your relationship them and how they stand with you. … Secretary Rumsfeld?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Good. He’s done a heckuva job.
One more similarity between Iraq and No Man's Land. Somewhere, someone was claiming that administration insiders claim Rummy would have been fired if only the pressure on him would ease up. In other words, if his failures would just drop off of the front page for a little while, he could finally be moved out of a position to be making them worse. (Can't find the source right now, but there are rumors that he'll be replaced early next year.)

We'll just call this the Peter Presidency. As Matt Nisbet has been pointing out, competence matters.
