Imagine that

Bill spells out qualifications for education commissioner:
Under the new bill, the state education commissioner would have to have certain qualifications.

The measure would require that the commissioner be either a licensed teacher or school administrator, or have significant training or experience in the field of education.

A person with actual experience and expertise in the job he's being hired for. What will they think of next?

This is one of those laws that really shouldn't be necessary. But a state Board of Education run by political hacks can ram through any half-baked idea they like, so the legislature has to start spelling things out. Perhaps they should also require that the Commissioner be functionally literate.
