Santorum on academia

From The Chronicle of Higher Education, via In This Moment, we learn that Rick Santorum is ready to step things up in the war on science:
Candidly, I think the Congress has been remarkably restrained in spite of what most of us see as a hostility toward conservatism and for Republicans. We've been remarkably restrained, given that, in doing anything to sort of punish higher education for its ideology, we don't, and we haven't.
He stopped himself before he said: That's a real nice academic freedom you've got there, it'd be a shame if something … happened to it.

Santorum is the author of a defunct amendment to NCLB which would have singled out evolution as controversial and deserving of extra-special "balance."

Oh, yes, Ricky's world would be a fun place for academics to live in.
