Time to file!

The Journal-World reports that Douglas County needs more candidates to file:
County Commissioner Charles Jones filed for re-election Monday at the county clerk’s office. A Democrat, Jones, 54, had said in March that he intended to run for a third four-year term in the 1st District, which covers much of northern, central and some of eastern Lawrence. No one else has filed for the position.

Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, is the only one of the county’s state representatives who has filed for re-election. Sloan, who represents the 45th District, had no challengers as of Monday. All House seats are up for election.

All Douglas County township clerk positions also are up for election. Michael A. Stewart, Lecompton, is the only one who has filed. He is running for Lecompton Township clerk.

One precinct committeeman and committeewoman also will be elected in each precinct this year.
Sloan may be the only one to have filed, but I don't imagine Ballard or Davis will miss the June 12 deadline.

Precinct committeepeople are important grassroots organizers for the party. If your precinct doesn't have a Democratic committeeperson of the appropriate gender, think about taking responsibility for organizing your neighborhood.

It'll be interesting to see who gets chosen to take over as lieutenant governor now that John Moore is stepping aside.
